Highway Department

The Highway Department employs approximately 30 workers. These workers are divided between the Mansfield Main Garage, Shiloh Outpost, and Bellville Outpost. The outposts are used to better serve the northern and southern parts of Richland County by having manpower, trucks, and materials in closer proximity to the county roads they will be working on.

There are 348 miles of county roads and 360 bridges, along with over 1,000 smaller culverts within the county jurisdiction. Tasks done by the Highway Department include paving, pothole filling, mowing, trimming trees, replacing roadway cross pipes, ditching, roadway sign maintenance, guardrail repairs, snow plowing/salting, and bridge replacements.
