Driveway and Roadside Pipes
Driveway/Drive Pipe
Owners are responsible for their own driveway installation and maintenance (see ORC 5543.16). The County Engineer has a permit that is required for driveway construction and drive pipe installation on county roads. Contact the appropriate township official for township roads, and ODOT for state routes. There is no fee for the permit.
Roadside Pipes
Many owners want to enclose the roadside ditches for ease of mowing. Ditch enclosures are not recommended or performed by County forces. By enclosing ditches it creates maintenance issues that the owners are responsible for and, if not done right, could affect the roadway system and drainage of adjoining properties. A permit is required to enclose a ditch, and all costs of the installation are paid by the owner. The Engineer will specify the required pipe size and number of inlets, if required. Construction must be coordinated with the Engineer’s Office to ensure the highway drainage system and roadway will not be negatively affected.
