Oversize/Overweight Vehicles
Consistent with the Ohio Revised Code; which establishes the rules for governing the use of road, bridge, and highway facilities in the State of Ohio; Richland County has established Over Dimension/Overweight Vehicle Regulations – Rules Regarding Issuance of Permits.
Owners of vehicles that exceed specified thresholds for dimension and weight (reference ORC 5577) seeking to utilize county and/or township facilities are required to obtain a permit from this office. Certain exemptions apply (see ORC exemptions – Penalties).
To obtain a hauling permit, you will have to submit the following documentation:
- Completed application (form RC-1 and RC-1W)
- Copy of the current ODOT permit, as applicable
- Certificate of liability and property damage insurance
- A check for the appropriate amount as outlined in the Special Hauling Permit Fee Schedule (reference form RC-2)

Failure to obtain permits may result in fines/penalties by the Richland County Sheriff Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, or Municipal Police.
